A Brief History Of Ian Farlow

For years and years, Ian learned on his own how to play pianos and keyboards through trial and error. His first keyboard was made by Casio, and he loved it. Even without a way to record the music, Ian loved playing and experimenting with structuring songs, and did his best to remember the progressions of the music as he moved from one to the next. As time and technology progressed, Ian got rid of the Casio and moved into keyboards made by Korg, Roland, Ensoniq, Yamaha, and others. At the height of his collection of gear, Ian had four keyboards arranged in an "L" with pairs of keyboards stacked together. If it wasn't obvious, this was in the late 80's, a time when a pile of keyboards was all the rage.

Technology has progressed once again, and now Ian writes all his music on an Apple Mac Pro computer using Logic Studio. The synthesizers have been replaced with controller keyboards and software sound modules from Native Instruments, IK Multimedia, and others. But have no fear... even though there are no more piles of keyboards sitting around, there are piles of software boxes to take their place.
